Derwent Hill

From 26^th- 30^th January, a group of 8 learners attended a residential trip at Derwent Hill, Keswick. This was a chance for learners, who would not normally interact on a social level, to get to know one and other and work together as a team to complete several adventurous activities.

Upper Site Volleyball Tournament

Learners from the Upper Site took part in a volleyball tournament on Monday 19^th Jan. Organised by the PE department, leaners were split into three teams with a teacher in each group. Teams played a round robin, so each team played the other and then the top two teams played a final.

A couple of weeks ago we welcomed a new arrival on the farm - this adorable pygmy goat kid has captured everyone’s hearts. Her Mum is struggling to feed her so she is being bottle fed - as you can see, she isn’t missing out on the cuddles that everyone needs.

Minecraft Education

During Explore Culture lessons pink group have been using Minecraft Education’s Habitat Builder to design and build a habitat for an animal of their choice. They have explored the specific needs of their chosen animals—such as food, shelter, climate, and space—and used these ideas to guide their creative decisions in the game.

Maroon out and about!

Last week Maroon group went on a trip to Great North Museum (formerly known as The Hancock Museum). It has exhibits of wild animals from all over the world, including American Bison, Great White Shark and even a stuffed Dodo! There are also displays about Hadrian’s Wall, the Ancient Egyptians, and traditional costumes from around the world.

White group have been discovering exactly what John Keats meant in his poem over the last couple of weeks, exploring produce at the farm and around our site. We discovered it is a “mast year” this means when the climate and rainfall align, we have a bumper crop of Autumn fruits.

As part of the exciting Explore Curriculum, learners at Trinity Academy Newcastle Upper Site learnt lots outdoor and adventurous skills. The whole group worked brilliantly as a team, sharpening tools, cutting and sawing branches and logs, building fires and cooking and more importantly eating marshmallows.

Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award expedition

Four learners from Trinity Academy Newcastle Upper Site completed their expedition towards gain the Silver Award, with a three day expedition to the Lake District. Camping just outside Keswick and completing three very arduous walks, demonstrating map reading skills, commitment, teamwork and enthusiasm.

During Yellow's tutor time, our staff delivered an assembly on Eid, sharing its significance and meaning to them. We explored various traditions and foods associated with the celebration and discussed key topics such as Mecca and the importance of prayer.

Art en- plein – air!

White group added a new twist to their farm lesson this week - we incorporated some art as well “en plein air”, which they discovered as the French term for painting in the open air.

We spent some time observing the animals and the various plants growing there, before selecting a subject for their observational drawing.

Laser Tag Whickham Thorns

Year 9 learners from Trinity Academy Newcastle Upper Site had a fabulous time at Whickham Thorns. This time it was laser tag in the woods.
We played three games, one of team deathmatch and two of the last person standing. The red team demonstrated teamwork and tactics. It was a fun-filled afternoon, and all are welcome.

NHS Theatre Production on Careers in the NHS

The Performance in Education team visited Trinity Academy Newcastle Upper Site to deliver an interactive theatre production on Careers in the NHS. During a highly entertaining hour our learners learnt about the vast array of careers in the NHS. There are 350 careers in the NHS and it is one of the largest employers in the world! Our KS3 learners learnt about the different pathways into the NHS including, A levels, T Levels, BTEC and Apprenticeships (NVQ).
