PSHE/RSE

As you may be aware, relationship and sex education has become a large part of the personal development training given to all Trinity learners. The following is a guide to the information taught to our learners across the different stages.

Secondary: During this stage information will be reinforced around previous learning, with the addition of teaching personal safety, legal aspects around sex, sexual orientation, contraception and parenthood. Furthermore, a fuller understanding of relationships will be explored including consent, toxic relationships, harassment and exploitation to name a few. Towards the end of secondary education, these topics will be recapped and time allowed for open discussion to help confirm understanding.

Parents/carers cannot withdraw their child from Relationships Education in primary school or secondary school. However you do have some say over some aspects of what your child is taught. In primary, where the subject taught falls outside of the relationship and Sex Education curriculum, you may withdraw your child.

In secondary education, parents/carers will be able to withdraw their child from some aspects of sex education which does not sit inside of the science curriculum up until their 15th birthday. The child will have a right to opt into Sex Education three academic terms before they turn 16. If you wish to withdraw your child, please arrange to speak to the head of your child’s academy to discuss this further.

Trinity welcomes all parents and carers to be part of shaping our relationship and sexual education programme. If you have any comment, concerns or suggestions, please contact the Senior Leader Team.

Further guidance around this and the personal development programme of your child is available on the Trinity website.
