Building Resilience

When at forest school our learners understand that they have to progress through the different stages in order to use the range of tools available. This can be difficult when they are all eager to use equipment when they first arrive.

This builds their resilience when they see other learners use tools that they believe they are safe to use, but haven’t yet been taught how to. In addition, if they act unsafe with any tools they will go back to supervised use. Safety in the woods is our biggest expectation and our learners learn resilience as a result of staff remaining consistent with this. Once learners have progressed they are able to mentor our new forest school ‘pioneers’ and show safe use of the tools.
