Riverside Falconry | Build & Cook!

Our sanctuary learners had a fun-filled day at Riverside Falconry, building a pizza oven as well as constructing and personalising their own pizzas as a reward for their hard work.

The day started with learners going down to the stream to find stones that were suitable to make the pizza oven. Teamwork played a big part in this heavy-duty task of carrying the larger slate slabs. Once the right amount of stones had been collected it was assembling time. Falconry staff mainly assisted in this task, all the while teaching sanctuary learners the correct way to build stone structures to efficiently trap heat. It was then time for log collecting and building a fire which our learners always enjoy during their bushcraft sessions as it gives them time to venture through the forest. Once the wood was collected and the fire was made it was finally time for the moment everyone had been waiting for, making and eating the pizzas. All learners designed their pizzas using a wide variety of toppings and took it in turns to put their pizzas in and wait for what seemed like forever to finally eat them. Sadly no picture of said pizzas could be taken in time because they were too tasty and everyone was very hungry!
