School Council’s opinions are heard by Newcastle City Council

The Upper Site school council had an amazing opportunity to get involved in Newcastle City Councils ‘No Child Left Behind’ plan. This plan ensures that all young people are included in Covid- 19 recovery plans for the city.
The councillors discussed how they would improve their local area and what was important to them and their peers. The ‘No Child Left Behind’ plan will inform what happens in Newcastle over the next 8 years and the councillors opinions and ideas will have an impact on those changes. The young people who are school council members for the Upper Site will have a small part of getting to decide how what their future will look like in our great city.
The questions discussed were:
- How do you feel about where you live?
- How will living in Newcastle help you achieve your future goals?
- What spaces, places and things do you want to see more of?
- What would improve young people’s mental health in Newcastle?
Hopefully, school council will hear back soon on how their ideas are going to implemented across the region.
