Visit to Newcastle College

Learners from Trinity Academy Newcastle Upper site made a visit to Newcastle College to see what they offered as post 16 options. I think they were blow away with the vast range of courses and the facilities, many mimicking work like environments.

We visited the Mandela building dedicated to Art and design as well as fashion and textiles.

We also visited the construction academy to witness students in the practical environment on trades such as bricklaying, carpentry, joinery, electrical installation, painting and decorating, plumbing and plastering. A lot of interest, especially when they discovered the average brick-layers salary!

I think the most interest was sparked when we visited the computing department and saw the Esports room. Designed in partnership with Newcastle United Foundation, they will have the opportunity to learn more about working in the Esports industry and will take part in regular Esports competitions.

They will work with like-minded classmates to plan their own tournaments and events and may even have the opportunity to represent Newcastle United in national competitions.

Finally we visited the Lifestyle Academy to visit hospitality and catering. Where under the guidance of professional and experienced chefs, you will explore the industry and develop the skills and techniques you need to succeed.

They will hone their skills in industry-standard kitchens and put them to the test in the student run Bistro and fine-dining restaurant, the Chefs' Academy.
