National Numeracy Day at Trinity Academy Newcastle Upper Site

May 19 marked another National Numeracy Day. To ‘build confidence with numbers’ the team at Trinity Upper Site designed mathematical themes to put into their own subjects.

We had challenges, problems, creations and interpretations from all subjects including:

Binary codes; Mathematical escape rooms, parabolic curves, quadrats and biodiversity, data collection and representation, Statistics within non-fiction text, budgeting and personal finance, cooking, Leonardo Da Vinci’s bridge construction, calculating average speed and distance on the rowing machines, and a dive into famous mathematicians biographies.

All the activities had learners engaged so well, some worked through their break time to complete tasks and today showed how embedded mathematics is across a whole curriculum.

What has been demonstrated today is how well our learners can perform in tasks working together, and building on their confidence with numbers and mathematics. Overall, another successful drop.
